Tips around Leisure / Sport Goggles

The right sports glasses

Not just a question of fashion

Sports glasses made from Makrolon® don’t just protect your eyes against insects and airstreams, they are also trendy and chic. But you shouldn’t focus solely on looking good when choosing lenses. Their tint is important. Almost any color is possible. Orange is a truly versatile color for lenses – it filters out the blue portion of the light spectrum, which is responsible for blurring our vision. In both strong midday light and soft evening light, it heightens contrast, providing elite athletes and amateur sportsmen and women alike with a clearer impression of their surroundings. Adequate UV protection is also important, for example when you are on your way across a glacier in dazzling sunlight. Glasses which additionally feature infrared protection are also available.
Sports glasses with interchangeable lenses can be adjusted to different light conditions.
Skiing goggles are particularly prone to the danger of the lenses steaming up. This is remedied by an anti-fog coating on the inside of the lenses.

It´s all about propper maintenance

Never clean spectacle lenses with a dry cloth. Although they are protected by a high-quality scratchproof coating, stubborn dust particles can scratch the surface when you wipe it. Instead, the lenses should be cleaned under running water using a little dish liquid. It is advisable to then dry the lenses (without rubbing) using a fresh, clean cloth such as kitchen roll, a paper handkerchief or a cleansing tissue. Inexpensive dish liquids are best suited for cleaning spectacle lenses, because they usually contain a lower proportion of fatty substances. Stubborn dirt is best dealt with in the optician’s ultrasound cleaning unit.
